Nursing shortage is a global problem that has severe consequences on the quality of patient care, the remaining nurses in clinical practice and the healthcare system. Numerous recruitment and maintenance strategies have been tested internationally to prevent turnover to further increase and to overcome the nursing shortage. In spite of the numerous initiatives, nurses are still missing in hospital practice and municipality home care settings.
The special issue will address investigations on multifaceted issues concerning recruitment and maintenance of nurses in hospital and home care positions in the Nordic countries.
The special issue guest editors welcome submissions written in English of original research and reviews addressing any aspects of this topic, including:
- Transitioning from student to being a nurse
- Recruitment strategies to employ specific nurses
- Initiatives to take care of newly educated nurses in hospital and home care practice
- Initiatives to maintain experienced nurses in hospital and home care positions
- Nurses’ intentions to stay or leave their hospital or home care positions
- Factors important for Onboarding/Introduction programs for newly employed nurses
The deadline for submission is October 2024. The special issue will be published in March 2025 as issue 15(1)
